Dear People of People’s,
The rain falls, the wind blows, the flooding continues from Hurricane Harvey. Might you take a moment and pray for comfort and safety for the people of the Houston area and those in Louisiana affected by this flood? There is a prayer below that you may want to lift up.
One of our own, Kris Strasburg, has deployed with the Minnesota Red Cross and is helping in Houston right now. Let us pray for her and for all who are working to aid, help, and comfort those whose homes and everything they have known have been devastated Let us pray for those families whose hearts are breaking with the loss of their loved ones.
Let us also donate to one of the agencies that are currently helping. Click on the “here” in each of the following and it will take you directly to their site.
American Red Cross: Usually the first group people think of when giving after a disaster. It says it is providing shelters for those displaced by Harvey, and it has thousands of volunteers on the ground in the state. You can give here.
All Hands: This nonprofit recommended by disasterologist Samantha Montano has staff on the ground in Texas, and is in contact with emergency management officials about assisting in the response and recovery. You can give here.
Global Giving: A charity crowdfunding site that is attempting to raise $2 million to be used exclusively for local relief and recovery efforts. You can give here.
Will you pray with me?
Loving, Creator God, You are strength to those who suffer and comfort to those who grieve. Let the prayers of your children who are in trouble rise to you.
We claim your promises of wholeness as we pray for those who are suffering loss and long for your healing touch.
Make the weak strong, the sick healthy, the broken whole, and guide those who serve them as agents of your love.
To everyone in distress, grant mercy, grant relief, grant hope and comfort.
We commend the victims to your care. May the memories be blessed and held tenderly in the hearts of all who grieve their loss. We pray for their families. We pray for the relief workers.
Give them strength. Give us strength of purpose and concern for others, that we may create a community where your will may be done.
God of compassion, you weave out of terrible happenings wonders of goodness and grace. Help us to trust your grace.
Surround those who have been shaken by tragedy with a sense of your present love, and hold them in faith. Though they are lost in grief, may they find you and be comforted;
We pray this all in the name of Jesus the Christ, the one we follow. Amen.
With love and blessings to all,
All services will be indoors until next summer!
